Being part of the expansion plan of the same facility over a field work spanning four distinct phases and three years required adapting to site dynamics while maintaining the same quality standard for each phase. Based on the bottom liner system established in Phase 1, new cells adjacent to the existing cells were integrated in subsequent phases; tie-in seams at phase transitions were designed to ensure continuity between the new and old geomembrane.
In the West African Sahel climate zone, the rainy season is the most critical constraint of the geomembrane deployment schedule. Panel planning, welding crew rotation, and daily production targets were tailored to site-specific conditions to efficiently utilize the dry season window. Following the subgrade preparation on lateritic soil, the surface—prone to drying and cracking—was covered with a protection geotextile, followed by HDPE geomembrane deployment.
Due to its multi-phase structure, the project was not a conventional lining work that is installed and handed over only once; rather, it was a long-term execution program progressing in parallel with annual production growth in continuous communication with the employer.
