The K1 site in the interior of Côte d'Ivoire is executing a next-generation TSF construction process expected to exhibit long-term waste storage performance under West Africa's tropical climate conditions. In this geography where annual rainfall is high and dry-wet season transitions are sharp, the geomembrane deployment schedule is planned directly dependent on the climatic window; therefore, manufacturing logistics, equipment mobilization, and panel inventory management were placed at the center of the project schedule from day one. The TSF 1 bottom liner system is based on the direct deployment of the HDPE geomembrane onto compacted subgrade over wide horizontal areas. The thermal expansion induced in the sheets by tropical solar radiation requires daily recalibration of panel placement and welding parameters according to local temperature. High humidity and continuous dust movement are also among the factors directly affecting the site discipline applied for the cleaning of the welding zone. Quality control processes during production, executed in accordance with international engineering specifications, are documented with destructive and non-destructive weld tests, panel tracking records, and daily deployment reports. At the site where expert deployment teams mobilized from Turkey work alongside local labor, knowledge transfer and standard compliance were structured as a complementary part of the project delivery model.
