In this project carried out at a mining site in the northern part of the Nubian Desert, where daytime surface temperatures can exceed 60°C in summer, the choice of geomembrane color was not random. Instead of standard black HDPE, a white-faced (white-on-black co-extruded) geomembrane was used; thus, the membrane surface temperature during deployment was significantly reduced, thermal stress-induced wrinkling was minimized, and the welding window was made feasible on site.

In the base and slope lining system of the waste storage facility, protective geotextile layers were placed below and above the white-faced geomembrane. The bottom geotextile provided protection against puncture risks caused by sharp aggregates in the subgrade, while the top geotextile protected against the mechanical effects of the tailings. The supply of both geomembrane and geotextile materials was carried out by us; this was decisive in ensuring the compatibility of product specifications with the application methodology.

Due to remote site logistics, material planning, waste allowance, and panel optimization were resolved during the pre-cutting stage; after NDT of field welds was completed, the TSF was commissioned.
