Mechanical interlocking with granular material

Produced in mono-, bi-, and tri-axial variants, the geogrid forms a composite load-bearing layer with the granular infill by interlocking horizontal deformations generated under the applied load within its apertures. As a result, the infill thickness decreases, bearing capacity increases, and differential settlements are controlled.

Geogrid consists of primary tensile elements (principal axis) maintaining continuity along the plane and transverse elements connecting them. While the primary load is carried in a single direction in uniaxials, load distribution occurs multidirectionally in bi- and tri-axial structures.
